ARE YOUR TREE LIMBS BLOCKING THE SIDEWALKS? June 17, 2009
Posted by nn9333ep in Announcements.add a comment
It has been such a beautiful Spring, and if you are like me you enjoy walking through our subdivision. It is now mid-June and our trees are growing by leaps and bounds.
Canton Ordinance law states there should be no less than seven feet clearance between the sidewalk and the lowest tree limb. This law protects both kids and adults, walking or riding bikes, from running into low hanging limbs. I have noticed the Canton Ordinance Officer driving through Brookside Village quite often this summer. Don’t get ticketed. Keep your trees trimmed and keep everyone safe.

Arrests have been made in the recent rash of tire and wheel thefts occurring throughout Canton. Three suspects were taken into custody in Troy after stealing tires and wheels. The suspects are linked to the theft of tires and wheels which have taken place throughout Canton and surrounding cities. These suspects are believed to be part of a larger crew of thieves which have been working in the Canton area.
Please remember to always report any suspicious vehicles or persons to the Canton Police Department 734-394-5424.
It is not just a CAR ALARM! May 20, 2009
Posted by nn9333ep in Announcements.add a comment
Simply put your car keys beside your bed!. It could save your life!
Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get into your house, just press the panic button on your car keys. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off, or the car battery dies.
Tell everyone you know and care about; this simple action could be useful in an emergency!
Antoher tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator:
The next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of your car alarm system! It could be a “security alarm system” you probably already have, and it requires no installation. Test it! It will go off from most anywhere inside your house and keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist “bad guy” won’t stick around, and after a few seconds, all your neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there, and sure enough, the criminal won’t want that.
Remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there! Maybe it could save a life, or criminal act from happening!
Your car keys ( car alarm), could also be useful in any emergency, such as a heart attack, when you cannot reach a phone. By just touching the alarm on your key set, you will alert others to your peril.
Tell your family, especially the elderly, to carry their car keys with them in case they fall outside and no one hears them calling out. If they have their keys on them, they can activate their car alarm by pressing the panic button to let others know they need help.
PLEASE SLOW DOWN! May 16, 2009

Today as I was walking through our subdivision, I saw two drivers going much too fast on Meadowlake and Georgetown. We have too many small children in our sub. Think of them, and what might happen if suddenly they ran into the street when one of these vehicles was passing. Was it really that important to speed through our sub? What if it had been your child?
If you can get license plate numbers, and a description of the vehicle, call Police Traffic Enforcement 734-394-5400, that is what I did!

Creek Clean Up a Success! April 29, 2009

The Annual Creek Clean Up was held Sat. April 25th. A dozen volunteers showed up to help, they were: Dave Bastine, Nina Burbo, Autumn Salts, Jocelyn Wagnite, Dave Repp, Linda Lang, Dante, Jody Pisano, Lisa Walbrook, Robert Hudson, Mary Colwell and Larry Wilhelm. Look below for pictures of the Clean Up.
Three truckloads of wood and branches were taken to the dump. Debris was removed and put into
trash bags that were later delivered to the dump. A large blockage in the creek was cleared just south
of the bridge and water was flowing freely again and is safe for times of heavy rains. The home association provided pizza for the crew after the clean-up. Volunteers thank you all for you efforts in keeping the creek clean!
We’d like to invite the rest of you to volunteer next year. It’s a fun and productive way to meet your Brookside neighbors!
BVHA NEEDS YOUR HELP! April 25, 2009
Posted by nn9333ep in Announcements.add a comment

It has been my pleasure to live in Brookside Village for more than thirty years. We may not be the most elite community in Canton, but most of us have pride and maintain our homes in a neat, attractive manner, and our home owner’s association has kept our sub safe, clean and well maintained for all of those years.
It was not until the fall of 2008 that I was introduced to the intricacies of what truly goes on within our homeowners association. I must say that a finer group of people will not be found no matter what association you may be a part of.
Contrary to what some may think; No one is ever compensated for any of the work they perform! All work and effort is on a voluntary basis. Whether it be the complexity of the tasks performed by our Treasurer; or the tedious work of trying to collect dues or going to court or township meetings; or the cumbersome task of getting bids from reliable snow removal or lawn maintenance companies; or the urgent repair work to keep our neighborhood safe… “All work is a volunteer effort!”
As a result, our association dues are the lowest in Canton.
Indeed, we are fortunate, but this is where you can help us keep our dues down!
BVHA NEEDS TO TAP INTO YOUR TALENT…
We are currently looking to add board members to BVHA. We are hopeful that in this difficult time you may want to add to your resume, and help us build your homeowners association. We need people who are talented in negotiations, (snow removal and lawn maintenance contracts). We need creative people who love children and are interested in helping to bring fun programs and event days to the kids in our neighborhood. We need tech people who are computer savvy and have the ability to build on and add to our website. We need marketing ideas and multi-talented individuals; and those who like to fix, build, and repair what is broken.
Have we piqued your interest yet?
Like meeting new friends? How about helping to create a “newcomers” packet and distributing it to new homeowners? And … You will not have to go it alone. You will have our help and support!
Some of our board members have worked for years in their respective volunteer assignments. We need to give them support and share in the responsibility of maintaining our subdivision.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has!”
Margaret Mead
You have no idea how important you are!
If we don’t find help within our community soon, we may need to hire a management company, which will result in a dramatic increase in our annual dues.

Brookside Subdivision-Wide Garage Sale April 22, 2009
Posted by nn9333ep in Garage Sale.add a comment
Brookside Village will be advertising for it’s subdivision-wide garage sale soon. Brookside has it’s spring sale every year the Thursday thru Sunday the week after Mother’s Day. This year it will be held May 14th to 17th. If we get 20 participants to sign up for the sale the association will place advertising in local newspapers. If we do not get at least 20 to sign up the only advertising will be the large yellow signs that go along the perimeters of the
sub the week of the sale. So far we have 6 signed up. So if you’d really like to see this sale take off, you may email or call us at the following: brooksidesubdivision@yahoo.com or 734-448-1312. We will need your name, address and phone number. Those participating will receive some maps to pass out to sale goers that show all addresses of those having sales in the subs. This will help sale goers to find their way around and in turn find the sales of all that have signed up with the Association. We will also see that participants receive a balloon to help mark the sale. Participants will be contacted the week of the sale and balloons and maps will be delivered to your porch the night before the sale or before. If we happen to get an overwhelming response (over 40) We will have to charge a small fee to receive the maps and balloons. So please get in touch with us and help make this a success! Thank you.
